I'm not one to make resolutions so I figured a loophole would be for me to set goals for things I'd like to accomplish in the new year.
Since having kids I've been trying to come up with nice "from scratch" recipes for baked goods. I don't feel as guilty giving him something where I physically touched every single ingredient.
I'm not a big person to care about processed foods but for treats like cookies why not make my own? It takes no time and I get 4x the amount for half of the price.
When I stumble across recipes that I want to try I sit and stare at them for days or weeks before finally taking the plunge and doing it.
I'm real particular about certain things like cookies. I don't like crunchy cookies. Sorry I want them straight out of the oven soft but all the time.
I have mastered soft chocolate chip cookies and soft Sugar Cookies. We mastered the Pioneer Woman's Cinnamon Rolls. :). I also have mastered Dinner Rolls.
For a recipe to make it into my recipe binder I will have to make it quite a few times and tweak as needed. I don't want to put in a sub par recipe that I'm not 100% happy with.
So now I'm looking to expand my horizons since we will be spending a lot more time at home the next 6 months or so 1. Because of the new baby and 2. Because it's going to be cold.
This also gives Tom and me some bonding time. It's something we can do together.
We have come up with a list of things we'd like to master over the next year. By master I mean perfecting the recipe. I want to be able to say "I want this" and know that it'll come out moist, delicious, and damn right sinfully good every time. We can make a lot of the 'Dinner' items already but it's so hit or miss and I'm really tired of it.
I will be adding to this list over the next few days and hope in January start to tackle the list.

That is a fun way to do resolutions. PW just came out with a new cookbook that I got my sis in law for Christmas. YOu can never go wrong with her recipes!
ReplyDeleteYum. Your list makes me hungry.
ReplyDeleteI am really excited about this Amish bread I'm going to be baking this month! It looks so easy, I just hope is just as good! :)

If you want to make your chicken tenders healthier: I cut chicken breast into strips, brush mustard over it, and roll in crushed up ritz crackers (and any type of seasoning...we sometimes use cajun to make them spicy)...then bake. They aren't crispy because they haven't been fried but they are delicious!
ReplyDeleteGreat goals... keep us updated on how everything goes this year in the kitchen! Oh, and love the new design!!
ReplyDeleteOMGosh now my stomach is growling ... lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great goal idea! I'm not sure that I have "perfected" any recipe ever! I just keep trying new things to see if I can make it better :) I LOVE the new look here and hopefully will love the look of your new baby soon!! :) Good Luck! ...Maybe you will have a new year baby!

ReplyDeleteI can help you with a couple of cake & frosting recipe's also some of the 'food' items. I'm not good with bread, but would love your scone one after you perfect it. Love baking, such a treasured memory & fun to do. <3, Amy
This is awesome! I admire anyone with kitchen ambition. I hate to cook! I would rather clean up after you experiment. :)
