We all know that saying, "Sleep when the baby sleep."If you are pregnant it's, "Better get your sleep in now."
I'm not a napper I hate naps they make me extremely cranky. This pregnancy I did quite a bit of napping towards the end. Couldn't have anything to do with that 10lb baby I was carrying could it?
Now that Sam is here and 3 weeks old (holy crap) we are still trying to figure out how to sleep.
The first two weeks it's been I stay up and let Tom sleep then he stays up and lets me. Then it turned into we'd nap on the couch with Sam while the other slept. This allowed each of us to get some sleep. I was going to put uninterrupted sleep but you know I'm breastfeeding so I won't know what a full nights sleep is like for at least a year but probably much longer.
Sam is a pretty good sleeper when he's being held or he's laying in my bed.
I'm working on getting Sam to sleep in his playard. He isn't a fan yet. He will now sleep in my bed flat next to me all night so the last two nights I've actually gotten some decent sleep.
Much better than being awake for 40 or so hours like we were coming home from the hospital. *yawns*
I'm really not a fan of bed sharing. Mainly because it means one of us is on the couch. I enjoy sleeping next to my husband. It's been 3.5 weeks since Tom and I were asleep in the same bed at the same time. It's almost like we aren't even married anymore hah.
We need a bigger bed.
Hopefully the next couple days I can get him sleeping in the playard next to my bed for at least part of the night. I don't think it'll be that big of an issue he's sleeping for about 3 hours at a time during his deep sleeps.
This is a fantastic thing. Lucas did not sleep that long until he was 6 weeks old. Even then it wasn't common.Sam is a great baby we are so in love with him. Lucas is so excited to be over his sickness, that luckily Sam and I didn't get so I'm hoping I gave it to them and won't have to be sick again. Now Lucas can touch and love on his little brother and he couldn't be happier. I'm just happy to stop saying "Don't breathe on the baby!!"
He is adjusting pretty well to being a big brother I'll have another post about that later on.
Side note:
I'm finally getting chances to sit and blog again. I've missed it. I'm commenting on the ones I can read. If you have CAPTCHA I can't comment from my phone :/ but I'm reading everyone's blogs! It's been one of the nicest things to do while I'm stuck to a chair nursing.

It is so strange how different babies can be! Raegan slept beside us in the playyard bassinet and I had to set an alarm to wake up every three hours cuz little miss lazy pants wouldn't wake up on her own! And since I was nursing, I really needed her to and really needed her to gain weight (which she did no problems)! Now though, I would love for her to fall asleep with me sometimes and she absolutely wont unless she's in her crib!
ReplyDeleteYAWN, I'm tired just imagining it!
ReplyDeleteMy kids refused to sleep without me....and our little full sized bed is quite crowded now. :( Bahahaha! I cannot imagine having to tell Cassie not to breathe on her brother...that would have been hilarious! ;)
ReplyDeleteWe lived with my mom for Boomer's first 6 mos. I remember the first 3-4 weeks vividly. Boomer was a great baby, but I was dealing with postpartum and that girl could EAT. Usually around 3am, after hours of nursing a very little sleep i would tearfully creep into my mom's room and say, 'I can't take anymore'. I would make a pallet on the floor by here bed, and she and Boomer would sleep together for 3 or 4 hours. Until she was about 18mos, my mom was the only person Boomer would sleep in a bed with. Those hours caught on my moms floor saved me lol.
ReplyDeleteGetting sleep and breastfeeding is a tough thing. Sounds like you and your husband are doing all you can to catch up on a few extra zzz's.
ReplyDeleteHe is gorgeous! I am pregnant right now with a toddler and so not ready for that no sleep phase!
ReplyDeleteI wish we had a bigger bed...and we don't even have a baby sleeping with us ;) Sounds like you guys are figuring it all out! I am not a big nap fan either...with the exception of the 4 years I was in college. Naps were my best friend in college!
ReplyDeleteWe have been in "no sleep" mode for the past 10 months...our sweet Thea is the worst sleeper EVER! I have to constatnly remind myself that one day I WILL sleep again! :)
ReplyDeletethat is the one thing i am dreading most about raising babies/kids...not much sleep.
ReplyDeletehope it gets better/smoother soon :) at least you can snuggle your sweet little baby while you are sleep deprived!
I also am not a napper. I get you need to sleep when the baby does but it's hard to do when there are other things like laundry and cooking that need to get done. I can only imagine having Lucas to occupy makes it that much harder to rest.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Sam is a great baby so fingers crossed you get some good stretches of sleep each night.
Awwww how cute! I guess I'll be having my share of sleepless nights next year. My future mister wants us to have a baby by next year. I have a friend who was super happy and cheerful but all throughout her pregnancy she was always so cranky or was just always crying about this or that. I hope I don't get the mood swings and I hope I adjust fairly well to everything and the lack of sleep.
ReplyDeleteLook how beautiful he is!! I like the picture of the two boys together too. :) Hope your little one takes to the play yard. :)
ReplyDeleteOH hun I so don't miss those days. HUGS! I hope he likes his playard soon so you don't have to share your bed anymore.
ReplyDeleteHe is such a cutie!!
I have a son that's Lucas's age. We still haven't decided about whether or when to have another. Oh my goodness do I remember those days of sleepless nights. Even now, we still experience it when our son is sick... Yes, we need a bigger bed too. Congratulations to you and best wishes on getting settled into a new family routine :)
ReplyDeleteJust found your cute blog. I could never take naps either. With my first I was so enchanted I just wanted to start at her all day, and with the 2nd and 3rd I was too busy. You have a sweet family.
ReplyDeleteTake a peek at my new blog. Thank you
ReplyDeletePlease stop coming to my blog and leaving spam comments. Frankly I don't care about your issues with the other blogger. You have way too much time on your hands if you can stalk her and her readers.
