Big Brother

Since I got that positive pregnancy test I've been worried by Lucas' reaction.

You never know how your kid will react to this kind of news. Lucas was 3.5 and dying to play with other kids. He's been so thrilled by being a big brother. When I'm explain to him that the baby couldn't come out just yet we still had to wait I could see the impatience growing. I feel like he was more ready for Sam to arrive than I was.

We are a few weeks in and so far things are good.

He loves his bother.

He doesn't love the lack of attention he is getting from us. I get this completely. I can't help but be tethered to  Sam since we are nursing. I try to love on Lucas as much as possible.

He doesn't love that he has to be quiet during active times of day. Sam is a pretty heavy sleeper while he's being held but when he's laying in the rocker or swing he's like any other baby.

Lucas is great when you ask him to go get diapers or wipes. He will get me things I need if he can find them, which is a whole other post there.

We like to pick on Lucas and ask him to change dirty diapers. I've never seen a child leave a room so fast. He does not want anything to do with diapers.

Overall he's been great. We are still adjusting but things are going well. The other night for example when he told me goodnight he blew Sam a kiss.

I'm sure once Sam is moving around Nom-ing on Lucas' toys he will not be so thrilled about being a big brother.

  1. Glad to hear Lucas is adjusting so well. This is my biggest fear for my little guy. It's inevitable that they won't get all the attention anymore but I still want him to feel so loved.

  2. Aww that is wonderful he is adjusting to being a big brother! I wish my baby was a heavy sleeper- so completely not. I open a door and she is wide awake lol :)

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

  4. That's a great! As I contemplate if/when to have another baby, I am so worried about how it will change Aubrey. I know that she would live a sibling but I have this guilt that I won't be able to give her 100% all the time. Glad to know that things are going well with the two kids! It gives me hope!

  5. How fun!! I'm so glad Lucas is enjoying being a big brother. We have a four year old and no others...we're not sure if that will change, but I must admit I would be worried about giving each of them equal attention, etc. etc. too. It sounds like you guys are doing wonderfully...your little family will find a routine and soon it will be hard to remember what it was ever like without Sam. Best wishes!

  7. Very sweet pictures! My boys fought some when they were little (my oldest two) but they're grown now and absolutely the best of friends. All nomming of toys forgiven. ;)

  8. This is so precious!! It's what makes me sometimes feel bad that we plan to wait 3-4 more years before having a second, I want to see my girl as a big sister! But it's for the best to wait....so I tell my hubby our next two can be closer in age! :))

  9. Such a sweet thing to watch brothers love. It just gets better as they get older!

  10. I always gave the older child preference when they both needed something at the same time...the older child would hear the baby crying and see me fussing with him and finally say, well, take care of the baby first...the older child made the call so there was never any resentment.
